This is my first post and I am super excited about blogging and becoming a Reading Coach!
I just wrapped up an intensive six-week training that my district provides for new Reading Coaches. I promised myself that this would be my week to relax and yet I am so excited that I cannot seem to stay away from working. So far today I have created binder covers for the year, organized my new flash drive, and now I have created this blog.
I have been following bloggers for many years, one of my favorites is A Teeny Tiny Teacher, but I never quite had the guts to start my own. As I go into my first year of coaching I tried searching for blogs that other reading or literacy coaches have started. What I noticed, however, is that I couldn't find coaching blogs quite as readily as other teaching blogs. That's not to say I didn't find any at all. In fact I have found some wonderful ones especially Ms. Houser, whose latest blog post is basically what inspired me to start this blog! I think it's important that us coaches start to show off what we do more and encourage the role of coaching, because from what I've seen and learned coaching is extremely powerful!
What my goal for this blog is to follow in the lead of my favorites and blog often about literacy coaching and other things I find interesting. I hope to grow and develop this blog and hope you'll come along for the journey!
I had the same problem; it seems like there just aren't too many coaching blogs out there! I started writing about coaching last year, and realized that there is a ton of stuff to write about! I'm finally starting to include more of that on my blog, rather than just focusing on literacy. Good luck on your first year coaching! I'll be checking back to see what you write about!

Thanks so much!
DeleteHey there! So good to hear from another coach! Wow, a 6 week coaches training? That's so amazing. Our district created my position (two years ago), but that was it, I didn't have a job description or any kind of training, so was just making it up as I go along! I'm so happy to have found another coach - I want to start writing more about coaching this school year for sure!
ReplyDeleteAre you on facebook? There's a closed group of reading specialists and literacy coaches and I can invite you for more collaboration that way, too! (send me an email with fb details is you want!)
Blogging is awesome, I never knew how much I would love it until I made amazing friendships via blogs and social media. I know you'll love it! :-)

Yeah we actually started bimonthly trainings in January and then had 4 days a week for six weeks over June and July. Our district has had coaching in place for a while though. :) That must've been hard trying to determine your job description as you went! I'm excited to get to know you more through blogging! :)
DeleteMichelle Brezek can you add me to the Facebook group. This is my first year as a Literacy coach.
DeleteSo glad to find your blog. I am starting my first year as a literacy coach (2-4) also! Even though I've been teaching over 20 years, I feel like a first year teacher right now! There aren't many lit coach blogs that I have found, so I'm glad to see yours. Best wishes in your new job and marriage :)
ReplyDeleteSo great to hear from you Kaylynne! I agree it does feel a little bit like starting all over, but I am excited about what is in store! Thanks!
